JOLIET, IL (April 26, 2014) –  When Will County and Vintage Tech Recyclers created a residential front door electronics recycling program in 2011, they never imagined the success the program would generate amongst the community.  Over the past three years Will County’s front door program has collected just over 2.4 million pounds of electronics.  “That is close to 1,300 tons of household electronics that have been kept out of our local landfills,” states Karrie Gibson, CEO of Romeoville based Vintage Tech Recyclers.  Gibson further explains that as they approached the landfill ban in 2012, Vintage Tech understood the importance of providing another convenient option for Will County residents to recycle responsibly.  “We are very pleased with the results of this program, and look forward to the continued growth of the “at your door” service, “ concludes Gibson.

The first of its kind in the Midwest, Will County first proposed the program in response to the Illinois Electronics Landfill ban that was enacted in 2012.   By piloting the program in 2011, Will County and Vintage Tech had the opportunity to streamline collection prior to the January 1, 2012 landfill ban.   As the program has grown its numbers, so has the cost of processing the leaded glass within the old tube televisions and CRT computer monitors, while commodities continue to decrease in value, which are still a large part of the electronics waste stream.

In an effort to continue the program, Vintage Tech Recyclers will be charging county residents a $25.00 per pickup fee. The services are the same, however, residents will be required to prepay prior to pickup.  Residents may use any of the FREE Drop-Off sites within Will County.  Vintage Tech encourages Will County residents to contact their customer service department, 866.631.1707 to learn more about the prepayment option.

Residents should note that broken, scavagened or any non-whole units will not be accepted as part of the front door program.  Electronics will ONLY be picked up when located at the front of the home or garage, and will not be picked up if placed by the curb.
