Twelve area employers are honored for hiring military veterans

Kansas City Business

Twelve Kansas City area employers that hired military veterans through Missouri’s Show-Me Heroes program have been honored by the state’s Department of Economic Development.

Show-Me Heroes, established in 2010, helps connect military veterans with job opportunities when they return home from the service. Employers participating in the program pledge to boost efforts to recruit and interview veterans for job openings.

As part of the program, the state added an on-the-job training program for returning National Guard members and reservists and recently separated active duty service members that Show-Me-Heroes employers agree to hire. Through this effort, the state will reimburse employers for half of a participating workers’ wages during a contracted training period.

So far, 3,850 businesses in the state have pledged to hire veterans through the program and 6,703 veterans have been hired, according to the Missouri Division of Workforce Development.

At an event in Kansas City last week, the following employers were honored: All My Sons Moving, American College of Technology, Antioch Dental Group, Auto Truck Group, Central Power Systems, Grantham University, Hillview Nursing and Rehab Center, two Home Depot stores, Midwest Data Center, an O’Reilly Automotive store and Vintage Tech.
