Sangamon County Department of Public Health Announces Electronic Collection

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) is encouraging Sangamon

County residents to properly dispose of their discarded electronics by hosting a collection on Saturday, April 10, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Lot 21. Participants should enter the Fairgrounds through the Gate 11, across from Franny’s on Sangamon Avenue.

The Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) is encouraging Sangamon County residents to properly dispose of their discarded electronics by hosting a collection on Saturday, April 10, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Lot 21. Participants should enter the Fairgrounds through the Gate 11, across from Franny’s on Sangamon Avenue.

The following items will be accepted: cameras, camcorders, CD/DVD/ZIP drives, console TVs, power cords, cable and USB cords, desktop PCs, fax machines, handheld electronics, hard drives and pc components, joysticks/game controls, keyboards, laptop PCs, mice, monitors, pagers, portable CD players, printers, radios, scanners, stereos, telephones, TVs, typewriters, VCR/DVD and video game players. There is no cost for this service.

Vintage Tech Recyclers is partnering with SCDPH on this project. They will ensure that the material collected is properly recycled, refurbished and that computer hard drives are shredded. Recycling electronics saves natural resources by diverting them from the landfill. This is one of the activities recognizing 40 years of Earth Awareness.

Industrial business products, hazardous chemicals, white goods and household appliances will not be accepted.
