SHEBOYGAN — Do you have a TV taking up closet space? Are your junk drawers filled with cell phones and other gadgets?

If so, join Habitat for Humanity Lakeside on Saturday, December 8 from 9 AM to 2 PM for free electronics recycling at the Sheboygan ReStore, located at 1911 North 8th Street in Sheboygan.

Volunteers and staff will be onsite to unload vehicles and answer any questions. Proceeds from the event will go towards Habitat for Humanity Lakeside to help build new homes throughout the community.

Habitat for Humanity of Lakeside has teamed up with Vintage Tech Recyclers to provide a responsible electronics recycling service. The company is E-steward that has partnered with several counties and communities throughout the state of Wisconsin to allow residents to drop off electronics free of charge.

Vintage Tech ensures all customers that all electronics are properly handled and recycled and all hard drives are protected using NIST 800-88 compliant software wiping.

In 2011, a mandatory landfill ban has gone into effect that now prohibits old electronics such as TV’s, computers, stereos, and other items from going into the landfill.

“Since we are open to the public, while you’re dropping off your old electronics, you might as well shop around,” said Pete Martinez, the Sheboygan ReStore Manager. “Also, don’t forget that we are still collecting non-working or no longer needed Christmas Lights”
