Electronics Recycling Comes to Peru Saturday

Another wave of e-cycling is about to reach the Illinois Valley.

Area residents can bring electronics such as old computers, TVs, keyboards and more to the Carus Corp. parking lot, U.S. 6 east, Peru from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

La Salle County and local communities have been pairing with Vintage Tech Recyclers to offer free recycling to residents. Previous electronics recycling events attracted crowds to Ottawa, Mendota and Lake Holiday.

In addition to computers, televisions and monitors, accepted items include laptops, printers, scanners, fax machines, stereos, DVRs and VCRs, cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, phones, holiday lights, laptop batteries, servers, network equipment, VHS tapes, floppy discs and videogame systems and controllers.

Items not accepted, according to La Salle County Environmental Services and Land Use Department, include “typewriters, toaster ovens, hair dryers, curling irons, cash registers, copiers, electronic tools, air conditioners, refrigerators, dishwashers and other white goods.”
n Another electronics collection is planned 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Streator High School parking lot.

 

USDA hosts oil, antifreeze collection next weekend
A used oil and antifreeze collection is set for 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Service Center parking lot at Route 23 and Dayton Road, Ottawa.

No containers or filters will be taken.
