Press Release

Free Electronics Recycling Event Brought to You by Washtenaw County, LG Electronics USA and Vintage Tech Recyclers

DETROIT – October 14, 2013 – Do you have a TV taking up closet space?  Are the junk drawers filled with cell phones and other gadgets?  If so, please join us on Saturday, October 26th, on the campus of Eastern Michigan University, located at 799 N. Hewitt Road, Ypsilanti, MI from 9am-2pm.  This event is ONLY for residents of Washtenaw County.

Washtenaw County, Vintage Tech Recyclers and LG Electronics USA have joined forces to bring to a free solution for responsible electronics recycling to area residents.

To assure responsible recycling, the LG Electronics Recycling Program works with e-Stewards-certified recyclers, like Vintage Tech Recyclers, which is an e-Stewards,  R2, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certified electronics recycling company. Vintage Tech provides IT asset management, responsible recycling solutions, and hard drive security in their facilities nationally.

Vintage Tech Recyclers ensures to all customers that all electronics are properly handled and recycled and all hard drives are protected using NIST 800-88 compliant software wiping.

The electronics recycling event will be held from 9am – 2 pm at EMU, located at 799 N. Hewitt Road, Ypsilanti, MI.   Residents are encouraged to stay in their vehicles as Vintage Tech Recyclers personnel and volunteers will assist in unloading material.

According to LG Electronics USA, by recycling old electronic products, useful materials such as glass, plastic and metal can be re-used in the manufacture of other products.  Recycling electronics minimizes the amount of hazardous waste in the landfills and the extraction of new raw materials from the earth.

Local residents also are being encouraged to “Do 1 Thing ENERGY STAR®” by replacing their recycled electronics with energy-efficient products. Replacing older TVs and computer monitors with new ENERGY STAR certified models helps consumers save energy and money while addressing climate change.
