New Electronic Disposal Law Can Create 42,000 American Jobs

Irresponsible electronic disposal has devastating effects on the environment, which is one of the many reasons there has been a push for governmental regulations that ban harmful disposal practices. The most recent push against improper electronic disposal is happening at the federal level, and it’s bringing great economic benefits.

According to an article by Earth911.com, a new federal bill called the Responsible Electronics Recycling Act (RERA) would limit the amount of e-waste that can be exported to other countries for recycling or disposal purposes.

Fortunately, this new regulation could create up to 42,000 new jobs in America! In the economy’s current state, this is great news, and just one more reason to keep recycling those old electronics you have around the house.

Earth911.com also reports that processing this waste in the U.S. has the potential to create 21,000 fulltime recycling jobs and an additional 21,000 indirect jobs. These jobs can have a possible payroll of $772 million! How about that!

“The bill has received bipartisan support in both the House and Senate and is expected to be re-introduced in the current session of Congress,” Earth911.com states.
