Cell Phone Facts

Whether you landed on this post from our Facebook, Twitter, or home page, we at Vintage Tech are willing to bet that many of you are viewing this post from your mobile devices. This isn’t surprising, considering that in 2010, the world recorded over 5 billion cell phone subscriptions, according to this site

This same site claims that in the United States, consumers typically get rid of their cell phones after only about 18 months of use. This makes sense, as a typical cell phone plan lasts approximately two years, with the option to upgrade a few months before the plan expires. After all, there is always a constant stream of new cell phones being introduced, and in order to keep up with the latest and greatest technology, we as a society feel the need to ditch our old phones as quickly as possible.

However, if you think about it, this is creating a truly tremendous amount of waste. Millions of cell phones have entered into the waste stream, and there are millions more that will become obsolete every year. With these devices containing toxic materials like mercury, cadmium, lead, and galium arsenide, we can not afford to let these products be disposed of irresponsibly.

That’s why we at Vintage Tech Recyclers have made it our mission to make responsible electronics recycling both free and easily available to you.
