Algonquin having fall recycling drop-off event

ALGONQUIN – The village has scheduled a fall recycling drop-off event on Monday.

This event is being offered with the help of Groot, Vintage Tech Recyclers, Friends of the Library and Charity Pickup Service. This event is for Algonquin residents only and proof of residency will be required at the time of drop-off, according to a news release.

Items accepted for recycling include lawn furniture, large plastic toys, grills, clean metals, wood-based furniture, large cardboard boxes, clean wood, aluminum gutters, and Styrofoam. Electronics eligible for recycling include computers, televisions and radios.

Donations of small appliances, electronics, clothing, household items, adult and children’s books, and audio-visual materials must be in working condition, the news release said.

A complete list of items that will be accepted is available at www.algonquin.org/ECO. Items that are not listed as approved will not be accepted, the news release said.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Presidential Park at 700 Highland Ave.

At last year’s event more than 30,000 pounds of electronics, and more than 13,000 pounds of plastic and metal materials were recycled, and one truckload of reusable clothing and household items was donated, according to the news release.
