Vintage Tech Recyclers

Vintage Tech Joins Kuusakoski U.S.

In 2014 Vintage Tech was acquired by the U.S. subsidiary of the multi-national recycling firm Kuusakoski Recycling. With operations in 12 countries and a history of over 100 years in recycling, Kuusakoski is a world leader in the scrap industry. From the day Kuusakoski first began collecting iron, metal scrap, and textile waste in 1914, the philosophy that drives the company has been one of "zero waste" -- the idea that every piece of scrap has value. Karrie Gibson, who founded Vintage Tech in 2005, shared this ideology when she built a talented and dedicated staff committed to promoting environmentally safe and cost-efficient means to reuse and recycle obsolete electronics. Today Kuusakoski U.S. and Vintage Tech are lead by Rich Hipp, President and CEO, who not only continues to uphold the standards and traditions set by both companies but also seeks to exceed them, to propel and establish Vintage Tech and Kuusakoski U.S. as leaders in today's ultra-competitive e-scrap market.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Vintage Tech Recyclers is dedicated to performing social goods, not only by ensuring that our entire recycling process maintains compliance, but also by encouraging activities that create a positive impact on our environment, employees, consumers, communities, and all other members of the public. Our founder, Karrie Gibson, started the company with our communities in mind, and we are committed to keeping it that way.

Staying true to Corporate Social Responsibility, we at Vintage Tech see to it that we stay actively in compliance with all laws, ethical standards, and both national and international norms. Going beyond the interest of our company, we strive to engage in activities that further social good and enhance our surrounding communities. Vintage Tech embraces our corporate responsibility for our actions, and stay dedicated to the constant innovation that continues our improvement both in the recycling sector, and our social responsibilities. We hold the idea that creating and maintaining a positive relationship to the societies in which we operate in nationally is extremely important, and having these relationships helps us to operate effectively and boost our overall performance.

Our marketplace ethics have a proven track record leading to several awards and substantial growth within the marketplace.

Vintage Tech Recyclers provides an open transparent model to the partners we serve, providing in depth look at the behind the scenes recycling process, approved downstream vendors, the material flow, and the final disposition of their electronic assets.

Our service model is designed around a cradle to cradle process, giving outdated electronics a new life and a new market at the end of its lifecycle. Our hierarchy of recycling provides a reuse first, recovery of components and electronics, and a fully transparent recycling process to ensure the highest stages of recovery during its final end of life process.

Vintage Tech Recyclers strives to stand out from our competitors. With our enhanced recycling technologies and motivated staff, we are able to offer a cradle to cradle recycling program; breaking down your obsolete electronics into their rawest materials, and ensuring that they are then put back into the manufacturing stream. With an A+ BBB accreditation, Vintage Tech prides itself on extraordinary customer service, ensuring our customers that their electronics and sensitive data are always handled properly, all the while making the process as seamless as possible. FAQs

  • I’m not sure if this is recyclable, how can I tell?

If any part of a device is recyclable, Vintage Tech will recycle it. Simply contact us and we can help.

  • Aren’t all recycling programs pretty much the same?

No! Many companies claim to recycle electronics. Unfortunately, they simply strip the device of valuable parts, only to toss the rest in a landfill. Vintage Tech will recycle the entire device and make sure hazardous materials are properly disposed.

  • I have a variety of old electronics around the house, can you recycle them?

Yes! We take everything from old computers and cell phones to televisions and VCRs. Simply find a facility or drop-off area, or contact us to inquire about our mail-back program. Please see our accepted items list to find out if your electronics are recyclable through Vintage Tech.

  • Of the materials recycled, how much can be reused to make new electronics?

When a device is turned in, a vast majority of the materials can be recycled. In fact, almost all of the materials used to make cell phones can be reused to make new devices, and 99% of a PC can be reused or recycled.

  • What are the materials you recycle?

You can find our full list of accepted items here. If your item is not on the list, contact us to see if we can still accept it.

  • How dangerous are the substances found in electronics?

Many of our modern electronics contain lead, mercury, cadmium and brominated flame retardants, which can severely impact our environment by leaching into the surroundings, contaminating air and water supplies.

  • How much electronic waste is in our waste stream?

Unfortunately, 2.37 million tons have entered the waste stream as of 2009. Vintage Tech works to recycle as many devices as possible to limit the effect electronics waste has on our environment.

  • Where do non-recycled electronics end up?

Many consumers simply toss electronics and computers into the trash and they end up in a landfill. Also, electronics claimed to be recycled by companies are often shipped to overseas landfills, which are less regulated and extremely harmful to people and the environment.

  • I have some things to recycle, but I can’t bring them to a facility. What are my options?

We offer a mail-back program to assist customers who are not able to take their devices to a local facility. Please fill out our form and we will assist you further.

  • Do you also recycle batteries?

Once we pick up or receive your equipment and electronics, they are brought to one of our facilities to be processed for recycling. This includes dismantling, demanufacturing, shredding, sorting and more. The commodities and materials are then shipped to one of our certified vendors to be fully smelted.

  • I have a large amount of computers and electronics at my business to be recycled. Will you pick them up?

Yes! We provide full-service solutions to pick up any centrally located order and deliver it to one of our facilities.
