Next electronics recycling event set for Nov. 6

 

CHAMPAIGN – Area residents can bring unwanted or old electronics items for recycling at a countywide residential electronics collection event this weekend.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at The News-Gazette Distribution Center, 3202 Apollo Dr., Champaign. Drivers are asked to use the Olympian Drive entrance.

Participants can bring up to 10 electronics items for recycling.

Acceptable items include televisions, computers, laptops, computer monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, zip drives, fax machines, VCR players, DVD players, MP3 players, PDAs, video game consoles, and mobile phones.

There is no fee to residents (from anywhere) who participate, and a team of five or six community service volunteers will be on hand to unload the electronics items from the vehicles.

The event is coordinated by Champaign County Regional Planning Commission and sponsored by The News-Gazette, the cities of Champaign and Urbana, the village of Savoy, Champaign County, and Champaign County Probation and Court Services, with assistance from the University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center. The contractor is Vintage Tech Recycling.
