LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -  For some students at Lafayette Jefferson high school, your decision to live green was a big help for their robotics team.

Jeff's FIRST Robotics Team 1646 partnered with Vintage Tech Recyclers to collect electronic waste from people in the community.

They earned five cents a pound for computers, and two cents a pound for everything else to go toward robotics team competitions and supplies to build a $2,000 robot from the ground up.

Plus, the students say, they were glad they could help the community dispose of E-waste responsibly.

"It keeps the environment clean, keeps things off the side of the road, and out of the landfill that doesn't need to be there. It will all go back into recycling to make new products and things that we use every day," said team member Sam Rainwater.

The team members say they collected more than three tons at the event this weekend.
