CANTON — Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County has been actively engaged in a recycling drive of used, broken and outdated office equipment and small appliances.
The effort has paid off in a big way.
The local Habitat for Humanity recently received a check for $792.32 from Vintage Tech Recyclers, which is the business working with local officials on the project.
Vintage Tech Recyclers, located in Lockport, picks up the used products, dismantles, sorts for parts, and sends those parts out to be melted back to their original raw state. The melted parts go back to a factory and are reused to make other products.
Money from this initiative will help build homes for needy families in the county, according to Habitat Director Loren Blackfelner.
Helping out as collection sites were Tarter Feeds, FCRC, Chuck Rakestraw and The First Christian Church in Canton.
Partnering with Habitat on this project were Canton School District 66, MidAmerica National Bank, Bushnell/Prairie City Schools, Farmington School District, Avon School District, Graham Medical System, Canton Family YMCA, YWCA, and several individuals, businesses and churches.
