Recycle VideoGovernor Pat Quinn is headed to Peoria Friday to show his support for "Green Technology."

Quinn signed legislation Wednesday that will overhaul the state's Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act. It increases recycling goals for business and strengthens the penalties for those that do not comply.

Quinn will be in Peoria at the end of the week to sign a bill sponsored by Senator Dave Koehler that allows Illinois to recycle old shingles that can be used to make asphalt.

Quinn also plans to visit a new shingles recycling center called Southwind Raz.

A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday for the innovative "green" business.

The company sorts through construction waste and picks out the shingles. A machine grounds down the shingles, melts them and turns them into oil that is resold to make asphalt roads.

Disposal companies have an incentive to send their construction waste to the shingles recycling center because it's about half the price of a landfill.
